Biography
Zelin Seah 谢泽琳 (B.1980) lives and works in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He received his BFA at Birmingham City University in 2007.
Zelin is an artist acclaimed for his semi- abstract depictions of the contemporary socioeconomic phenomenon, by adopting fragmented daily life space images. His black and white layering brush method allows for structure like inner section that cannot be view through surface; thus, Zelin’s paintings are more complicated than what can be captured through the eye. Zelin suggested an interconnected space, forming the hidden structure and law in life, through such fragmented portrayal.
Zelin has held a solo show at Hom Art Trans Malaysia in 2011 and a two man show at Taksu Gallery Malaysia in 2013. He has been actively participated in Malaysia Art scene, as well as South East Asia region country on exhibitions and residencies, Including Perahu Art Space Indonesia in 2013, Project Space Philippines in 2012, The Open Society Foundation Myanmar in 2012 and Hom Art Trans in 2011.
Zelin has emerged finalist in a number of competitions, including the Malaysia Emerging Artist Awards, UOB Painting Awards, VAA Painting Awards… His works were part of the Jury’s selection of recommended works at the 14th Japan Media Arts Festival 2011. In 2013, Zelin is being recognized as an awardee for The Young Guns Awards. In 2014, Zelin has been selected to be one of the 21 feature artists in Prudential Malaysian Eye Exhibition and book. Following, Zelin has been selected as 1 of the 4 artists to represent Malaysia, participate in Prudential Eye Zone under Start Art Fair at Saatchi Gallery, London.
